Social Networking in Orkut!

Orkut, which is a social networking service, has taken the world or rather the Internet users in its feet. Google runs this networking site. It got its name from Orkut Büyükkökten, who is an employee of Google. It has been formed to make new friends and maintaining the existing ones and is the most visited site in Brazil and second most visited site in India. 43.9% of the traffic of Orkut users comes from Brazil and 38.8% from India. On January 2004, this social networking website was launched by Google, the search company. It was found in April 2008 that Orkut has some 120 million users. The user first will need to create an account then in Orkut and then complete the profile, which includes ‘social’, ‘professional’ and ‘personal’ details. The users have also been provided with the facility to upload photos and videos in their account. The option of ‘scrapping’ is most used for both online and offline communication. The feature ‘Communities’ helps in choosing their personal likings or disliking. The ‘communities’ can be created by anyone and on anything. As per March 24, 2008, there are 47,092,584 communities in Orkut. Orkut was announced for redesigning on August 24th 2007, some of them are able to see the update of the friends, improving the number of friends one want to see, and the initial release of Orkut in 5 different languages is announced. Though a lot of controversy is being going on concerning Orkut, this is the best social networking site by far.
